Individual Therapy is an opportunity to develop new strategies for the challenges you might have at your job, with your family, in a relationship. It is a time to explore feelings and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Simply put, it helps you understand what makes you tick and how that affects your interaction with the world. As you gain insight into yourself, unwanted symptoms and old patterns disappear. You develop new strategies, stronger coping skills, and a greater sense of personal control. Research studies show that people experience positive feelings after being in therapy.
As an experienced therapist I can help you with:
- Self esteem
- Relationship problems
- Reducing stress and anxiety
- Decreasing feelings of sadness or depression
- Clarifying your goals
- Strengthening social skills
- Managing anger
- Overcoming feelings of isolation and loneliness
- Recognizing self destructive habits
- Finding a balance for love, work and play
Talking with a friend, family or colleague can feel good, but there are certain things that they cannot guarantee, which I can:
Confidentiality: I am bound by the ethics of NASW to maintain confidentiality: what is said in my office stays in my office.
Education and experience: I have been trained with a knowledge base that your friends may not have.
No Agenda: Friends or family may not be objective because they are involved in your life. As a therapist, I do not have an agenda of what you should or shouldn’t do. You and I create that together. Effective individual psychotherapy requires your active involvement to help you make the changes you desire in your life. If you are willing to work hard (as I will), you can expect therapy to be well worth the time and money you invest. Your life is too valuable to waste.
Please give me a call or send me an email with any questions you have about individual counseling. My office is conveniently located on the upper west side.
